“Our libraries are community treasure chests, loaded with a wealth of information available to everyone, equally...and the key to that treasure chest is a library card.” ~ First Lady Laura Bush
To get a library card with the Livingston Parish Library, you need to visit your local branch and ask for an application to get a card. You will need to supply proof of identification and address when filling out the application.
Identification needed when applying for a library card:
The purpose for requesting identification is to establish proof of residence in Livingston Parish and to have, on file, the correct mailing address and residence address. Also, for those who are not residents, but are being allowed to obtain a library card, this is to serve as proof that application information is accurate. For out-of-parish, permission slip from own parish library system is required.
To be valid for the purpose of obtaining a library card, the patron must show identification that has his/her correct (911) residence address and preferably a photograph. Any number of items will be accepted singly or in combination to fulfill the requirement:
Identification Card (with photo and correct residence address
Checkbook with current mailing address
Mail with date cancellation showing current mailing address
Receipt for payment of rent or utility charges
For out-of-parish, permission slip from own parish library system is required. (Out-of-parish residents in neighboring (reciprocal only) parishes must show a signed authorization slip from their parish librarian as well as a picture ID and proof of address.)
Adult cards will be issued to patrons 14 years and older. Juvenile cards will be issued to patrons 13 years of age and younger whose parent(s) sign for the card with the understanding that the signer is responsible for all materials checked out.
