Career Center

Located at the Denham Springs-Walker Branch, the Career Center assists patrons in researching career opportunities while exploring online and print resources and skill-building exercises that can greatly improve their chances of success in their endeavors. The Career Center also guides small business owners and prospective entrepreneurs in accessing beneficial planning tools. The Center features and facilitates the use of library resources for these purposes. Resume building, mock interviews, and in-depth skills training sessions require an appointment.

Many circulating items relevant to career and business research needs are available in physical or e-formats. Browse the Career Center collection for a concentrated selection of up-to-date, authoritative materials on finding, securing, and advancing in your ideal job. Consider the elements that can affect your job search process or career advancement potential: organization, time management, people skills and more. Staff will gladly assist you in finding the resource you need.
Copying, Faxing, and Printing
Access the library’s minimal fee copying, printing, and faxing services. Printing is available through public computers or free in-branch WiFi connection to personal devices. Mobile printing is also available. Find out more click here.

The Career Center facilities offer patron computers with productivity software, such as MS Office Suite, and quick links to databases used during skills training. The branch's Idea Lab also provides laptops for checkout upon request for training purposes and quiet areas for use.

- Make sure your Livingston Parish Library card is up-to-date and in good standing.
- You are 15 years of age or older.
- Understand that computer sessions should be related to the purpose of the career center and may last up to 2 hours with possible extensions dependent upon availability.
When you bring your work experience and other relevant background information to the Center, staff will facilitate access to resume builder tools and templates and help review the types and styles available. You’ll learn how to use the builder or template of your choice with your information to compose a professional resume and save a copy for future updating. Staff will help locate relevant example resumes as language guides based on your target audience and background. You will have the option to submit a draft of your resume online for review by registering for a JobNow or tutor.com account (part of Homework Louisiana). Both of these databases are free with your library card.

For a mock interview, a private space will be reserved during your appointment time. In the event you choose to record the mock interview, you are free to bring your own laptop and any accessories you require, or you may check out a laptop from the library for use during the session. If you choose to use a library laptop, please plan to save your work to online or external storage as no copies of such recordings will be kept by the library.
Training in software relevant to your job-searching needs is available for programs such as MS Word, Excel, or PowerPoint. Additional training may be discussed with staff and follow-up appointments scheduled as needed. Such assistance may also include access to online training resources.
Staff will assist you in navigating specific library-provided online resources, such as career and business resource databases. For exploration of more than one resource, or for in-depth training, multiple sessions may be requested.
The Career Center will host three free workshops this month to assist patrons in their job search. All workshops will be hosted at the Denham Springs-Walker Branch and require prior registration.
Join us for each of these hands-on workshops to start building your next, best career or advancing in your current career. Each step in the process will be supported by LPL Career Center resources including dedicated one-on-one assistance. Although not required, it is highly recommended that participants attend all workshops. Basic computer skills are required. Registration is required. Ages 18+.
