The Livingston Parish Library is proud to offer a variety of free adult literacy programs designed to meet you wherever you are in your learning journey. Whether you're looking to strengthen your reading and writing skills, earn your high school equivalency diploma, or learn a new language, we have resources to help – including one-on-one tutoring, English as a Second Language (ESL) courses, and Spanish language classes.
We are also actively seeking compassionate volunteer tutors who want to make a meaningful difference in someone's life – no teaching experience is necessary, just a desire to help others succeed.

The Livingston Parish Library is proud to offer a free English as a Second Language (ESL) Program. This program is intended for adult learners (ages 18 and older) who want to build basic reading, writing, and speaking skills for real-life conversations.
With weekly evening classes and two semesters a year – spring and fall – our ESL program is designed to work around your busy life while keeping you on a steady path toward your goals. And don't worry about any fees – the class is free, and we supply all materials!

El camino para hablar, leer y escribir Inglés empieza hoy.
La bilioteca de la parroquia de Livingston se enorgullese en ofrecer el programa: Inglés como Segundo Idioma (ESL). Este programa es para adultos (mayores de 18 años) que deseen aprender a leer, escribir y hablar en conversaciones de la vida real.
Las clases son en las tardes durante dos semestres al año – primavera y otoño – Nuestro programa de ESL está diseñado para que cumplas tus objetivos. Y no te preocupes por el costo -las clases son completamente gratuitas, y nosotros suplimos todos los materiales!

Beginning Spanish
Ready to learn Spanish? In our Beginning Spanish class, you’ll build conversation skills, learn essential vocabulary, and explore Spanish culture in a supportive, pressure-free setting. Registration is required.

Spanish II
Our Spanish II course builds on foundational language skills to help returning adult learners gain greater fluency and confidence in Spanish communication. Students will expand their vocabulary, master more complex grammatical structures, and develop stronger conversational abilities through practical, real-world scenarios. Registration is required.

Volunteers are the heart of the Adult Literacy Program, and we are always looking for people who want to share the gift of reading! By becoming a volunteer tutor, you’ll build a meaningful one-on-one connection with an adult learner trying to improve their reading, writing, and spelling skills. This will open the doors to better jobs, greater independence, and lifelong confidence.
Being a volunteer tutor does not require teaching experience — just a willingness to learn, a little patience, and a passion for helping others. If accepted, you’ll undergo a short training before being matched with an adult learner in your community.
