Summer Reading Program breaks Livingston Parish Library record for second straight year

Participants in the Livingston Parish Library’s 2026 Summer Reading Program logged approximately 81,280 books, marking the highest total in the library system’s 80-year history and the second straight year that readers have surpassed the 80,000-book milestone.

This year’s Summer Reading Program also exceeded the library’s registration and completion goals across all age groups. Broken down, this summer’s reading total is equivalent to:

  • Approximately 1,055 books read per day throughout the Summer Reading Program
  • Approximately 44 books read per hour throughout the Summer Reading Program

In addition to the record number of books logged, attendance at this year’s Summer Reading Program events and workshops eclipsed 38,000 attendees, another system record.

The Summer Reading Program encourages readers of all ages to keep reading throughout the summer months through registration, reading challenges, and community events. This year’s record-setting turnout reflects continued growth in program participation, specifically over the past two years.
