Dress as your favorite character from anime, gaming, comics, movies, or any fandom close to your heart and compete for prizes while connecting with fellow fans.

A cosplay contest is a fun, creative competition where participants dress up as their favorite characters from video games, television, movies, comic books, anime, and more. Contestants are judged on criteria such as craftsmanship, accuracy, and stage presence as they bring their chosen characters to life.

Whether you're an experienced costumer or a first-time participant, cosplay contests welcome fans of all skill levels to showcase their creativity and passion for pop culture. 

Held annually, the Livingston Parish Library's Cosplay Contest has grown into one of its most popular patron experiences, attracting a growing number of talented costumers of all ages and skill levels who compete for prizes while coming together to celebrate creativity, fandom, and their love of beloved characters in a fun and supportive community environment.

Cosplay contest contestants will be placed in their appropriate age groups, which are as follows:

  • Children: Ages 0-5
  • Youth: Ages 6-12
  • Teen: Ages 13-18
  • Adult: Ages 18+

Do I have to register in advance?

Pre-registration IS NOT required to participate in the Cosplay Contest – just sign up in person on the day of the contest at the Cosplay Contest Sign-Up Table.


Who can register?

Registration is free and open to all, but space is limited. Participation in the event will be dependent on available spots.


When is the deadline for applications?

Applications must be submitted in person at the Cosplay Contest Sign-Up Table before noon (12 p.m.) on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Book-Con.


What will I have to provide when signing up?

Contestants will provide their name, character, and series at sign-up.


Do I have to sign my child up for the Cosplay Contest?

Applicants ages 17 and under must register with parental/guardian consent.


Can my application be denied?

Yes, the Library reserves the right to deny any application that does not meet its event guidelines, including appropriate content and safety restrictions.

To ensure a fun and safe experience for all, participants must follow the guidelines listed below. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in disqualification.

Family friendly costumes only 

Costumes must be appropriate for all ages. Library staff will determine suitability. If you’re unsure about your costume, email bconstantine@mylpl.info before the event.


Recognizable characters only

Original characters (OCs) are not permitted. Costumes must represent characters from an established fandom.


No nudity or illusions of nudity 

Costumes must provide full coverage. Any design that creates the illusion of nudity is not allowed. 


No profanity

This includes offensive language or imagery on clothing.


No obscene or offensive costumes

Costumes that contain inappropriate, suggestive, or offensive elements are not allowed.


No scary or intimidating costumes

Outfits that could be considered overly frightening or disturbing to attendees are prohibited.


Prop weapon guidelines

  • Only lightweight materials (foam, cardboard, or thin wood) are allowed.
  • Props must not look realistic enough to be mistaken for actual weapons.
  • The following are prohibited: Live steel, heavy materials, functioning weapons, or props that were once functional weapons.

Footwear is required

  • For safety reasons, all participants must wear shoes.
  • If your character is typically barefoot, consider flesh-toned or clear shoes to maintain accuracy.
  • Socks and bare feet are not allowed.
