The Livingston Parish Library is pleased to announce its participation in the 12th Annual “Lawyers in Libraries” statewide program, a partnership with the Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA), the State Library of Louisiana, and the Louisiana Library Association.

For the past 12 years, the Louisiana State Bar Association, the State Library of Louisiana, and the Louisiana Library Association have hosted “Lawyers in Libraries” events during National Celebrate Pro Bono Week. During this week, LSBA members and libraries across Louisiana come together to provide free, limited services to the public.

Livingston Parish Library patrons can register to be connected with volunteer attorneys for a free 15-20-minute phone consultation about civil legal issues. Slots are available October 20-25, 2025.

Examples of civil matters include the following: bankruptcy, civil lawsuit, collection matters, custody, divorce, evictions, FEMA/disaster benefits, food stamps, foreclosures, housing, Medicaid, social security, SSI/SSDI, successions, taxes, and wills.

Attorneys cannot advise on criminal cases.

Livingston Parish Library patrons can begin registering for Ask-A-Lawyer by Phone on Friday, September 5. Registration closes October 10. Livingston Parish Library staff will be available to refer patrons to available resources pertaining to Lawyers in Libraries, but staff will not give legal advice.

When registering, patrons should be sure to provide accurate contact information and choose times when they are truly available to take the call.
