As part of its ongoing effort to provide convenient access to media, information, and resources for patrons, Livingston Parish Library (LPL) is now offering live chat through the LPL website and text messaging. Patrons can text the LPL at (225) 396-4LPL (4575) to be connected to a library staff member.

Patrons may use live chat to ask questions about library policies, obtain help with searching the library catalog, receive assistance with downloading eBooks, and much more.

“We’re excited to provide this additional option for the public to interact with the library,” said LPL Director Giovanni Tairov. “We want it to be as easy as possible for customers to take full advantage of the vast array of resources and services the library has to offer.”

Live chat service works in both desktop and mobile internet browsers, allowing users to get help at home or on the go. With a growing number of library resources available online, live chat allows the LPL to provide more responsive customer service to patrons.

“A lot of people who use the library regularly don’t actually come through the doors very often, because they prefer to access the resources we have available online,” said Tairov. “We want to make sure our online patrons receive the same attentive service that patrons who visit us in person enjoy.”

With COVID-19 forcing the library to temporarily close, along with the Governor’s stay-at-home mandatory order, LPL is dedicated to ensuring that patrons are able to access the information they need during these difficult times.
