Thursday, April 25, 2019 Livingston Parish Library Public Relations

On Thursday, April 25, the Livingston Parish Library (LPL) officially unveiled its new mobile library during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Main Branch in Livingston. Officially called the Discovery Mobile, the new vehicle serves as a mobile branch of the LPL, offering access to many services and resources offered in the LPL’s five traditional branches across Livingston Parish.

The Discovery Mobile is operated by the LPL’s Outreach Department, which routinely visits multiple daycares and nursing homes throughout the community. With the launch of the Discovery Mobile, the list of scheduled community stops will expand to increase the department’s community reach. Additionally, the mobile library will work to provide library access to rural areas of the community as well as individuals and groups who are unable to visit the LPL’s traditional library branches.

In addition to outreach efforts, the Discovery Mobile also serves as an extension of the LPL’s effort to increase public awareness to the vast resources provided by the LPL. Although the new mobile library is capable of carrying over 1,200 book titles, the LPL actively inviting patrons to discover more than books when visiting their local branch. Resources that patrons can discover include 3D printing, virtual reality, adult literacy services, mobile hotspots, engaging programs, small business resources, and more.
