Important Announcement Regarding the Livingston Parish Book Festival
Due to the possibility of inclement weather this weekend from Hurricane Rafael, the 9th Annual Livingston Parish Book Festival will now be an all-indoor event.
This change was made due to the uncertain weekend forecast surrounding Rafael as it moves through the Gulf of Mexico.
“We take into consideration the safety and well-being of our community above all else in everything we do, and that is why we felt the need to exercise an abundance of caution, given the uncertainty surrounding this weekend’s weather,” said Livingston Parish Library Director Michelle Parrish.
“Please know that cancelling our outdoor events was an extremely difficult decision to make. Several months of planning go into organizing the Livingston Parish Book Festival, and our staff works tirelessly to ensure that everything runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible, down to the smallest details. Additionally, Book Festival has become one of the parish’s most popular community events, because it brings people together in a positive way to celebrate the importance of books and literacy.
“Unfortunately, we simply could not move forward with our outdoor events since there remains the possibility that the weather could negatively affect our visitors’ safety and experience at Book Festival. Again, this was not a decision we made lightly, and we offer our sincerest apologies to the authors, organizations, and vendors who were willing to be a part of this special day.
“Although we have cancelled our outdoor plans, we are moving forward with our indoor activities, which include performances by Johnette Downing, the Petite Princess Company, and Nature on the Geaux. There will also be other all-day activities, such as face painting, balloon twisting, arts & crafts, concessions, and more.
“We hope you’ll join us in our celebration of books, literacy, and Livingston Parish, and we thank you for your understanding and continued support of the Livingston Parish Library.”
All events and activities that were set to take place inside the Main Branch will go on as scheduled. That includes:
- Blue Pup and Orange Pup visit (Petite Princess Company)
- Johnette Downing performance and book signing
- Nature on the Geaux presentation
- Face Painting with Party Artist
- Balloon Twisting with Twinkle Entertainment
- I Spy Room
- Augmented Reality
- Window Passive
- Free Books
- Arts and Crafts
- Temporary Tattoo Station
- Concessions
As a result of the changes made to the Livingston Parish Book Festival, all LPL branches will be open for normal business hours on Saturday, November 9.
