The Livingston Parish Library (LPL) has launched a new program that gives adults a second chance at earning a high school diploma.

Through Gale Presents: Excel Adult High School, LPL adult patrons can obtain their high school diploma entirely online, as well as prepare for college or the workforce.

This accredited high school completion program is available free of charge to qualifying adults ages 25 and older through the Library, and it can be completed in as little as six months.

Applications are now being accepted.

“This is an incredible opportunity for those who want to advance their education and achieve their career goals,” said Livingston Parish Library Michelle Parrish. “By offering Gale Presents: Excel Adult High School, we’re setting the stage for future workforce and economic growth.”

Currently, one in 10 adults in Livingston Parish do not have a high school degree or equivalent, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau. In today’s competitive workforce, a high school degree is essential for financial health and career advancement, putting those without one at a disadvantage.

Through Excel Adult High School, students can complete the 21.5-credit curriculum entirely online, according to their schedule and pace. Students will have up to 24 months to complete the program, and they'll have access to unlimited one-on-one tutoring sessions and support from success coaches.

Additionally, course translations and read-aloud tools for English language learners are available.

“Our Community Engagement department has worked tirelessly for months to get this program ready for Livingston Parish,” Parrish said. “We hope the community sees the value in this life-changing program.

“It's simple: You can earn your diploma online, on your own terms, and graduate ready for your next step. If you're waiting for the perfect time to go after that diploma, this is it!”
