Livingston Parish Library Celebrates National Library Card Sign-Up Month
Signing up for a library card is easy and free. And this month, the Livingston Parish Library is making it fun!
As part of an annual effort to make parish residents aware of all the resources available to them through a library card, the Livingston Parish Library is celebrating National Library Card Sign-Up Month.
Throughout the month of September, those who sign up for an official LPL card or renew an existing one at their local library have the chance to win prizes – not to mention utilize the wealth of services their library card provides.
“From borrowing books, eBooks, and museum passes to getting homework help, learning new skills, or attending story time, the possibilities are endless with a library card,” said Livingston Parish Library Director Michelle Parrish. “We invite everyone to sign up for one and find out!”
To sign up for a library card or to renew an existing card, patrons can go to their local branch or visit the Library online at www.mylpl.info.
About National Library Card Sign-Up Month
Launched in 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month is held every September to coincide with the start of the school year. Through this nationwide campaign, libraries unite to ensure every child signs up for their own library card, the first step toward academic achievement and lifelong learning.
From free access to STEAM programs/activities, educational apps, in-person and virtual homework help, technology workshops to the expertise of librarians, a library card is one of the most cost-effective back-to-school supplies available.
At the Livingston Parish Library, a library card gives students access to a plethora of educational tools and resources. With their card, students can borrow materials such as books and DVDs, get help on homework, schedule time in a study room, watch educational videos, use hands-on Learning Kits, engage in online tutoring, and more.
Additionally, educators can benefit from special LPL cards that’ll allow them to check out up to 50 books for two months, create their own collection for projects, or expand their school’s book selection. Educators can also request school visits from our Bookmobile, schedule field trips to their nearest branch, or submit a reading list.
“Our children are our future leaders, and the Livingston Parish Library wants to do our part to provide them and their teachers with all the tools they need to succeed,” Parrish said.
Whats going on at your local LPL branch this month
In September, anyone who signs up for a new Livingston Parish Library card or renews an existing card at their local branch will receive a special treat, while supplies last. Additionally, the Library is bringing its popular prize wheel to all five LPL branches -- giving more people a chance to win prizes.
Those who sign up for a new library card or renew an existing one will earn a spin on the prize wheel on a first-come, first-serve basis. The prize wheel will be available at all five library branches during normal hours of operation through the month of September.
Remember, signing up for a library card or renewing an existing one is easy! For more information, visit your local branch or check out www.mylpl.info.
“There is nothing more empowering than signing up for your own library card, and we want to make it fun to sign up,” Parrish said. “Through access to technology, media resources and educational programs, a library card gives people of all ages opportunities to pursue their dreams and passions.”
